I am expecting small and mid-capitalization stocks to surge in the New Year as trading volume builds and a real "January effect" commences. Small and mid-capitalization stocks are looking forward to (1) more Fed rate cuts, (2) another round and positive earnings, and (3) the tax cuts (e.g., no taxes on tips) that were promised in the recent presidential campaign. It will be interesting if taxes on Social Security benefits are eliminated since that will help to boost consumer spending!
